Hector Sanchez shot this commanding cover for Wine Spectator – on the great California Cabernet vintage of 2009. This really speaks to the fine art of making wines – at the end of the day you can have everything in place but it still depends on something so unpredictable as the weather. Certainly the science behind wine continues to advance so that it is possible to correct for some of the climate variables, but I for one prefer to have some unpredictability in my glass. It’s what makes for a great experience – the label, that first taste and the story behind flavor. So raise a glass to 2009, to originality, and to Hector Sanchez!
